Parish Mission Statement

We, the parishioners of St. Rita of Cascia Roman Catholic Church in Chicago, and guided by our patroness’s example, are called to follow Christ by promoting peace, unity, service, and love in our community and beyond.

Due to the great historical significance that we are the first Augustinian parish of the Midwest since 1905, as well as the first to be dedicated to Saint Rita of Cascia, we are guided by the example of St. Rita as well as the spirituality of the Augustinians. Thus, we recognize the importance of promoting peace and building community and relationships among all of our parishioners as well as with other organizations within our neighborhood and beyond.

We believe our parish has many “Pearls of Great Price” which make us unique, among those being our beautiful church architecture, the Augustinian friars who serve here, and the way in which our parishioners seek out ways to serve others.

We, the faithful parishioners of all ages, offer our talents through a diversity of ministries within and outside of our parish. We dedicate ourselves and strive to serve and love others through our acts of justice, mercy, and charity. We try to follow the Scripture teaching that says, “Let us consider how we may spur one another on toward love and good deeds” (Hebrews 10:24). We commit ourselves to the teaching of our faith with the hope of becoming a model that reflects our love for Christ.

As any other community does, we have faced many challenges throughout the years, but with our rich cultural diversity and strong parish community that is over 100 years old, we strive to always remain committed to following the mission of Christ.
